- In Adobe Illustrator, layers are actually named groups
- In Adobe Illustrator 10 an extra group with no content is created at the top of the layer list. This can be safely deleted.
- Get the Free vector graphic editing software "Inkscape" here Inkscape download
- Inkscape users be aware that performance is much slower than with Adobe Illustrator
- To import into Inkscape with the correct page dimensions, create a new document, go to document properties and set the page size to A0 and the orientation, landscape or portrait, accordingly. Import the SVG into the new document. When the import is complete press the "Fit Page to Selection" button. Then save the document out to another location.
- Other vector drawing programs supporting the full SVG 1.1 specification may also correctly handle our maps. Note that Corel Draw is known not to work with these files.

- Note to users of The GIMP: These images take a long time to open, On some systems over 2 hours! Once open save the file out as .xcf, the native GIMP format. Once saved as .xcf file, the image opens fairly quickly.Once open the "Gimp" is easy to use and editing is quick, while the program is very stable
- To create custom maps for use in GIS or GPS software, edit the image as you like and then flatten it. Save the resulting document out as a TIFF file and use the included world file (.tfw), projection file (.prj) or OziExplorer Map file (.map) as appropriate for your software.
- These map images can be exported to both the Fugawi mobile mapping software as well as ESRI ArcPad
- These maps can be used in all computers, including handheld devices and phones, with or without GPS receivers.
- To prepare the map for import into OziExplorer or Symbian OS smartphones, you must first change the image to indexed color (8 bit), without LZW compression, then save as a TIFF file.
- To import into OziExplorer or Symbian smartphones, first, you must convert them using the free converters.
Once converted you can import your map directly using the included geo-reference (.map) file.
